Pre-Memorial Day
My employer gives the Fridays before Memorial, Independence, and Labor Days off so that we can have four day weekends. It’s really a solid perk, an increasingly rare thing in the tech world. I spent my morning with my camera and two manual focus lenses— my Laowa 9mm f/2.8 Zero-D and a newly-acquired pre-AI Nikkor 24mm f/2.8 (according to this page serial number 539156 was probably produced in 1968, and mine’s 541803, so likely either ‘68 or ‘69). I just received it yesterday, so today was my first opportunity to really use it (spoiler alert, it was great).
First stop was at Mills and Colonial. I wanted to get a shot of the art deco / streamline moderne Colonial Photo and Hobby building, and spent a bit of time walking around the (closed) restaurants on that corner. Then I headed back to the Ivanhoe Village area where I shot a bit earlier in the week.
I think this was my favorite shot of the day, from the inside of the Dr. Drips Coffee Lounge on North Orange. This is (obviously?) shot with the 9mm, and I love the way the sunlight paints parts of the scene.
I walked down North Orange a bit, spent some time around the edge of Lake Ivanhoe, and met a Muscovy duck.
Finally I ended up on Park Ave in Winter Park, found a fun little frame and shot it with both my 9mm (the color image) and the 24mm (the black and white). Another coffee was drank. Then I bought sandwiches for my family and headed home.
It was a good morning.
