Sunday morning at Lake Baldwin

This morning K and I went to Lake Baldwin, a planned community “village” in East Orlando, for a walk around the lake.

Like most lakes in Florida, it’s mostly surrounded by scrub, which is good for the health of the lake and it’s ecosystem, but perhaps not the best for photos. Walking down New Broad Street to Harbor Park, the scale of the lake (196 acres, roughly circular) is impressive.

The highlight of the day was without question the Lake Baldwin Dog Park. My own dogs would have been absolutely out of control, but the pups at the park in the morning we all good boys and girls.

Finally, on the back half of the walk we stumbled on a large patch of gaillardia pulchella, aka Indian blanket, an annual native to Florida. They’re one of my favorite flowers—they’re so wild, scraggly and non-uniform.

Today was hot (high of about 32°C) so after a single lap we decided to back inside, but we’ll definitely be back—maybe next time with our own dogs so they can enjoy the dog park, too.
